Below is a list of our favorite woods to work with when installing a new floor. Each type of wood has its own personality, color and feel. The type of wood you choose to put in your home is a reflection of you. With your first meeting with us being free of charge we will get to know you, your home, and your design taste. This will better help us to know what type of hardwood will meet your needs.

Below we have made a top ten list of woods you can research and explore what strikes your fancy before our meeting. This is just a short list, each type of wood will have subspecies that you can delve into find the perfect wood type for you. We have experience installing all the woods that we have listed but would have no problem installing any type of wood floor. All hardwoods have different trade offs.  Some are harder than others and some look more variegated in color than others.  It is all in what you are looking for.  Use this list as a starting point.

Hardwood Flooring Installation

With so many choices it is hard to pick one favorite so here are some questions to ask yourselves about your hardwood choices. (If you have a few favorites from the list above please print them out for this exercise)

• First, sit in the main room you want to place hardwood flooring in. Sit right on the floor if you are able to.
• Now look around the room at the wall space, any views from out any windows and try to get a feeling of what would complement your space. (do not however consider wall color, this can be changes so easily that it is not a factor in choosing flooring type)
• Now consider the function of this room, is it a calm space, a happy space, an exciting space, a creative space, a restful space, a playful space. All these emotions can be expressed through wood choices. Write them down to review with us at our first meeting!
• Now write down the functions that need to happen in this space. Such as cooking (if you are in the kitchen or a restaurant) eating, visiting, etc. or in the living spaces, shortly describe the amount of activity that will be happening on the flooring so we can help you choose the right hardness for your flooring.
• Now if you have eliminated any of your printouts from the steps above, move to the next room you would like to do and see if your narrowed list still meets all the needs you listed above.
• Continue to go room to room assessing if your choice will work in each room. When we are able to meet with you will already have a jump start on the process of finding your new hardwood flooring!
