If you have decided on transforming your home or business with brilliant oak floors, then you have joined the many others who have appreciated the durability, the look, and the customizable nature of oak wood. But before we begin to lay the floor, there is a bit else that needs to be said.
Red vs. White Oak
While our goal is never to complicate your experience in choosing your ideal flooring, there are a few more decisions yet to be made. By choosing an oak flooring, you have made a fantastic choice. What remains to be decided on is whether white or red oak will suit your intended use for the floor itself better.
With its pores more tightly clogged white oak is naturally more water resistant, and for the same reason is slightly more dense and durable than red oak. Oak as a species in general, however, is a very durable wood altogether, and either red or white oak can be expected to last for many years to come. Red oak specifically has the advantage that, as the slightly more porous of the two oaks, also tends to be easier to refinish and re-stain.
Never hesitate to give us a call if you have still having troubles deciding on which kind of oak you would like for your flooring. Your floors are our passion, and we want to prove it to you by being of as much help as we can! We provide the information you need - and the suggestions when they are wanted - and you make the call. It's your floor after all.
Strength and Durability
For those who may be interested, here is how oak woods stack up next to others in terms of durability (not all of our flooring options have been included):

Comparing strength and durability, red and white oak both find themselves closer to the center of our list of flooring options, putting them at a median strength for hardwood floors: good wood for a good price.
