Novi is a city in Michigan that has a population of around 55,224 people. The city can be found approximately 25 miles from Detroit and 24 miles from Ann Arbor. Novi was originally called Farmington Township, but its name was changed in favor of the shorter name of Novi. From its first days as a village, it had a goal of becoming an established city. Novi is one of the most rapidly growing cities in the state. The construction and opening of Twelve Oaks Mall in 1977 has made the city a major shopping destination. The truth growth of the city started back in the 1960's and just recently has slowed down. In 2008, Novi was listed as #48 on Money magazine's list of the top 100 best places to live.
In terms of health care, Novi has some of the area's largest health care systems with the largest being Providence Park Hospital. The hospital can accommodate 400 patients and includes a medical office building and a neuroscience institute that hosts 100 hotel rooms.
The city is home to 6 high schools- 4 of which are public and 2 of which are private. The area also has 3 colleges and a large public library that has been operating since 1960. In addition to these schools, Novi is home to the Japanese School of Detroit which is a supplementary Japanese school that offers residents Japanese classes. Novi also hosts Sundai Michigan International Academy.
The fire department of Novi takes its role in the community very seriously and employs 28 full time and more than 70 part time fire fighters. The police department is similar in number of how many officers it employs. Both departments pride themselves on providing excellent public service, as both are highly trained and qualified to serve the community.
